Gloria Nayama

Hi, My name is Gloria and I am 20 years old. I am from Mukele Village and I walk two miles to Damascus Skills Center every day. I am the youngest of five siblings. I have a daughter who is three years old named Daphne. I had to drop out of High School as a Sophomore due to poverty. Damascus Skills Center is providing me with skills and knowledge so I can provide for my daughter and achieve my goal of becoming a hairdresser.

Emily Khisa

My name is Emily and I am19 years old. I live three miles from Damascus Skills Center. Life hasn't been easy, especially with seven siblings and my beautiful three-year-old daughter, Angel, to care for. I had to drop out of school in the seventh grade because of poverty, but I'm determined to turn things around. Damascus has been my lifeline, teaching me the skills I need to succeed. My dream is to become a fashion designer, and in my free time, I love dancing—it helps me express myself and stay motivated.

Jane Nandutu

My name is Jane, and I’m 20 years old. I live about 2.5 miles from Damascus. I had to drop out of HS during my senior year due to poverty and the impact of COVID. I have eight siblings, and I’m also a mother to my beautiful two-year-old daughter, Maiha. Even though things have been tough, I’ve been getting a lot of support from Damascus. I’m learning essential life skills that are helping me get back on my feet. My dream is to become a hairdresser one day. In my free time, I love listening to music; it helps me relax and unwind.

Maroin Nakhumitsa

My name is Maroin, and I'm 18 years old. I live 2.5 miles away from the Damascus Skills Center, where I'm learning the skills I need to build a better life for myself and my daughter. I have six siblings, and I also have a three-year-old daughter named Elizabeth. I had to drop out of school after the seventh grade when I got pregnant, but now I'm getting the support I need from Damascus. My goal is to become a fashion designer, and in my spare time, I love reading books.

Regina Nambuyo

My name is Regina, and I'm 19 years old. I live just one mile away from the Damascus Skills Center, where I'm getting a second chance at life. I had to drop out of school after the fifth grade because of a lack of money, and now I'm determined to make a better future for myself and my 5-month-old son, Byron. Growing up with seven siblings was tough, but it also made me strong and resilient. Thanks to Damascus, I'm learning the skills I need to become a hairdresser, which has always been my dream. In my free time, I love playing netball; it helps me stay active and focused on my goals.

Joan Nambliya

My name is Joan, and I'm 18 years old. I live 2.5 miles away from the Damascus Skills Center, where I'm getting a second chance at life. I had to drop out of school after the seventh grade because my family didn't have the money to keep me in school. I have a three-year-old daughter named Gift, who inspires me every day to work towards a better future. Damascus is helping me learn the skills I need to achieve my dream of becoming a fashion designer. In my free time, I love to dance—it's a way to express myself and stay connected to my passion for creativity.

Topsita Myismanekye

My name is Topsita, and I'm 20 years old. I live three miles away from the Damascus skills center, where I'm learning how to earn a living. I come from a big family with nine siblings, but I had to drop out of school after the sixth grade because we didn't have enough money. Now, thanks to the support I'm getting from Damascus, I'm working towards my goal of becoming a hairdresser. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, which has always been a passion of mine.

Syliva Kakayi

My name is Sylvia, and I’m 18 years old. I live three miles away from the Damascus skills center, where I'm getting the support I need to build a better future. I have six siblings, and I had to drop out of school after the sixth grade because we couldn’t afford it. But now, thanks to Damascus, I’m learning how to earn a living and work towards my dream of becoming a hairdresser. In my spare time, I love to dance—it’s a way for me to express myself and find joy amidst the challenges.

Sharon Namombera

I'm Sharon, and I'm 27 years old. I am a graduate of Damascus Skills Center and continue to work with the school as a mentor for the other students. I come from a big family, with 11 siblings, and I'm also a mother to my two-year-old son, Timothy. I was in my senior year of high school when I had to drop out because of financial difficulties. It was a tough decision, but poverty left me with no other choice. However, I'm not giving up on my dreams. I want to become a teacher, and Damascus has been a huge help in this journey by providing me with the skills I need for life. Whenever I need to relax or clear my mind, I love listening to music—it’s my favorite way to recharge and stay focused on my goals.
